The Little White Towel
Throughout this site you will read about these white towels. They really are one of my main "must have" items for cleaning in beyond!
I used to have my own home/office cleaning business. I needed to find an easy affordable way to clean, wipe, and dry all in one. My husband and I were in Costco one day in the auto dept and I found a package of 60. 14in X 17in white cotton towels for approx $20. That's about 33 cents a towel and I promise you you won't find any cheaper than that anywhere. They ended up working PERFECTLY. Since I started using them 12 years ago, I have never needed another towel. Saves time, money and makes things easier.
I use them for everything, I literally have about 200 in use and 2 un-opened packages on hand.
I color code mine with paint splotches.
Yellow - Bathroom (for cleaning and it's what I use instead of hand towels)
Red - Nasty Stuff I call the red biohazard lol
Blue - Garage (my husband uses them for washing, waxing, buffing, cleaning, cleaning up and we use them for any outdoor stuff)
None - Kitchen
TIP: Keep a stack in each room for easy access.
These are my kitchen towels I keep a large stack out of the way in the corner closest to my sink.
The only reason I do this is so when I wash them they can go back to being re-used for the same tasks. Yellow back to bathroom etc. No cross contamination. Whenever they become yucky or ripped they get thrown out or they become garage towels. This happens often and when I get low in any other area, I open a new package. I buy on average 2 packages a year.
The Uses for these towels are really limitless but I use them for
under my dish drain (I don't have one of those plastic things cause they get so gross and have to be cleaned. I use a towel a day, I put it in the wash every night and replace with a fresh one)
As a mat for anything
For dusting
Drying dishes and dish rag
As a wash cloth
PROS:
Being disposable (If one of the kids puke or I have to clean up something really gross, I use garage towels and throw them out so I don't have to rinse and/or wash them.
Having a bulk amount
Always having enough for spills or what have you
Also handy for keeping in the car for outings and car spills. They are great for detailing your car.
...
TIP: Wash new packages once or twice before actual use to rid the towels of fibers. Drying them a couple of times will get rid of even more. You will have a lot of lint even a few weeks of use and washes
Washing Rules:
1. They get washed separate from any other items. I use laundry soap and bleach.
TIP: Use a separate laundry basket for towels.
2. Absolutely NO fabric softener of any kind liquid or sheets can be used.
TIP: Buy cheap, lightly scented or un-scented laun soap. A store brand or sun, extra etc. You can usually get them from $1.50 to $1.99 If the soap is heavly scented, it will leave the smell behind on dishes etc and I hate that.
Explanation: The reasons for no fabric softener is simple, it leaves behind a residue, it streaks glass/mirrors and it will prevent absorption. Especially glass and mirrors
TIP: If you ever washed them with clothes by accident, re-wash towels alone.
One of the reasons I have so many is so I never run out and I can accumulate a full load for washing

ReplyDelete@ MammaBishop Forgot to tell you I am good for the 13th but you are driving, I'll give you gas money lol
ReplyDelete@ Lauren...rims lol yeah I don't even clean mine :)
ReplyDeleteThese are recommended by cheap doublers in cloth diapers too :) I used to have a ton of microfiber cloths but my supply is dwindling. I need to check these out. I did find some Awesome green window cloths that are used in hotels and such at the GO grocery a while back. They work amazingly well for windows which i am normally great at streaking when cleaning lol
